I tried something new today. Over the last week or so, I had a burst of creative (or silly) ideas involving my kids toys. Here are a couple of the results.
These images were created at a local park in Ann Arbor. Most of the toys were already present, so adding ours into the mix led to some interesting results. It’s different than the usual urban decay snapshots that I usually take. But it was just as fun and interesting, especially staging the toys to get the ideal shot and the correct lighting. It wasn’t too unlike setting up a commercial production shoot, and gave good practice for getting pictures that tell a story.
In the fire truck picture, we staged the broken dump truck falling into a hole. From the bent up parts of the body to the broken axles, whatever happened here necessitated the rescue from the fire engine. In the background you can see the rest of the construction equipment lined up as it might be on a real construction site.
In the bulldozer picture, the intensity of the expression on the Ugly Doll (and yes, that’s really what it’s called) mirrors someone who is working under a tight deadline. He appears to be in the middle of moving the dirt while the dump trucks behind him bring even more in, adding to his workload.
Or better yet, perhaps you even made up your own story.
Watch this space because you’ll be seeing more of this going forward.
