Photo of the Month – Chasing Asphalt

My close-up photo of a Ferrari 458 headlamp was selected as Photo of the Month by Chasing Asphalt! This image was taken at Cauley Ferrari in Michigan. This particular 458 was custom ordered and fully optioned – ringing up on the cash registar at a cool $340,000. It was painted white with a black roof, and gunmetal five star rims.

Lately I’ve been paying attention to auto manufacturers and their headlight designs. They’re almost becoming like automotive jewelry. Also there is a phenomenom called pareidolia – where people see ‘faces’ in certain objects such as clouds, or in this case, the front of cars. Car manufacturers purposely design their cars with this in mind to convey a certain message. Both of these subjects will be explored in future articles here, but suffice it to say the Ferrari 458 has a front end that could certainly be classified as highly aggressive. You can see some of that here in just the photo of the headlamp. The way it tapers back reminds me of a predator, while the xenon bulb looks on like an ever-watchful eye. The black stripe to the left of the headlamp angles down like a furrowed brow. For a car with a racing pedigree like the 458, that certainly seems appropriate.

I’d certainly like to thank Jurien, owner of Chasing Asphalt, for highlighting my photo. I’m very honored. And of course a thank you to the fine folks at Cauley Ferrari for allowing close access to such an amazing machine.
